Macarons or Macaroons?

French. Delicate. Bite-sized. Delicious.

Are these terms this describing a macaron? Or a macaroon? What’s the difference, and what does it matter?

Well, you might be surprised to learn that macarons and macaroons are actually very different delicacies. While they are both very yummy and a delight to eat, that’s where the similarities end.

Consider the main ingredients - macarons are made from almond flour; macaroons are made from desiccated coconut. Not only does this change the flavour, it also creates an entirely different texture.

Macaroons are often dipped in chocolate and are very sweet. Macarons on the other hand come in a wide variety of flavours - sweet, sour and savoury - and a dazzling array of colours.

Green tea and sesame; salted caramel; Fingerlime burst; and Belgian Chocolate. These are just some of the amazing flavour combinations made possible with the macaron.

Macaroons are relatively quick and simple to make - taking just 10-20 minutes to prepare. Macarons require a high level of skill and attention to detail - there are SOOOO many things that can go wrong!

At The Macaron Messenger we take the time and make all of our macarons with professional, traditional techniques, bringing you the tastiest, freshest high quality macarons. Not only that, we don’t mind sneaking in the odd macaroon too when the time is right.
